Boating

If you haven't heard yet, Pops got an awesome new boat. Adella joined us (while tutu watched Nolan) to Christen the boat (yet to be named). It also happened to be the Tall Ships weekend, so she had a blast checking out all the big "pirate boats".

Dress Up

Adella has been infatuated with weddings and brides ever since we watched the royal wedding last spring, I guess little girls really do start planning their weddings at 3 years old. She was given this amazing white dress-up costume and insisted upon wearing it the minute she got it, typical 3 year old. Then I remembered that I had an old J.Crew wedding dress (I got it before our wedding with the intention of shortening it, or using it somehow, which never happened). So I ran upstairs, threw on the dress and surprised her in the white gown. In her animated ways she said "OOOhhh Mimi! I can wear YOUR dress, can I wear your dress now?". And so yet another Mimi/Della dress up session began...

Burger

Nolan recently had his first In N Out burger! He got a classic cheeseburger, and loved it, while Adella got her usual "cheese burger with no cheese".

Our Family Room

Tim and I have been doing a lot of work around the house lately, mostly painting and making a few small improvements where we can. Our problem is that we start with one room, work for a few days, get burnt out, and then move on to another area of the house before finishing what we started. For example; our kitchen cabinets have been painted and hardware replaced, but we have yet to complete all of the finishing touches. A trend throughout the whole house. But we're OK with it. However, we have somewhat finished our family room, where we spend most of our time with the kids. We painted over the "Swiss Coffee" color that was throughout the house, put some hardware on the built-in's and found most of our furnishings. I don't believe a room is ever really "complete", and I try to come up with a neutral palate that can be interchangeable with pops of color in accessories. So here is how it looked before, and how it looks today!

Surf

This summer we spent a lot of time going down to Doheny Beach, where Adella started surfing! We rented a 9ft foam board and Tim would paddle out with her into the line up. She loved watching the "surfer girls" on the big pink boards and had blast just paddling around. These pictures were taken with my iphone, so the quality isn't the best.

Monthly Photo

Here is Nolan's 1 year photo!! His personality is really starting to shine now, and he is talking more and more every day. Lately it's been "Eye, EYE, eYEE, EYE...." over and over again, in his raspy boy voice. According to our pediatrician we now have two "talkers" on our hands. Nolan is still off of the charts in height and weight, and he is running all over the place now. He doesn't sit still very often, only to take an occasional bite of food, but even then he is constantly moving. We have discovered that he is a total red head, or as we like to say "strawberry blonde", all thanks to tutu's genes ;o) . We always have to keep an eye on him, as he will throw anything handed to him and hit with anything that resembles a stick... he's got quite an arm!

School

Adella had her first day of school last week! She was so excited to start school and had no problems with us dropping her off, I was the only one a little misty eyed. It was the first time we had ever left her with anyone other than a family member, so this was a kind of a big deal, and she did so well! Her first day consisted of circle time, puzzles, painting, "recess", and some yoga before lunch. She has school 3 times a week for about 3 hours a day. They provide all of the meals for the kids at her school, so when I went in to pick her up she was destroying a bean burrito, and it was the topic of conversation for some time. Every day after I pick her up, Adella asks "Mimi, can we go back to school now".... I wonder how long that will last?

Recovering

Hi. As most of you know I had surgery on Thursday to repair a small umbilical hernia, probably caused by the pregnancies, and am doing well recovering at home. The surgery was quick, only about an hour, and according to the doc my hernia was "miniscule" but needed to be repaired. So I have been staying upstairs in my cave while Tim runs around after the kids, as I am not to lift or do much of anything for a few days. I thought this would be difficult at first, but with the help of some medication, proved to be quite easy. I haven't slept this much in years!! So I am going to take some time to update our blog while I am forced to rest. Just to give you a little hint of what I am working on...

BTW, Nolan is a total GINGE!

Nolan's Birthday!

From one birthday to another.... Nolan is 1!!! The morning of the big day, Nolan was greeted with brightly wrapped gifts, decorations, and a floor covered in balloons, which proved to be more entertaining than any other gift. We celebrated Nolan's first birthday by spending the morning at Pretend City in Irvine. It's a children's museum that is a small city inside a warehouse type building, where kids can run around and explore different exhibits, such as a grocery store, farm, firehouse, police station, etc. His most favorite thing to do is pull every toy out of the play room and sort things around the house, so we knew letting him loose in Pretend City would be a hit. I wish I could say this was his first time trying cake, but having an older sibling who LOVES cake made that impossible. But it was his first gourmet cupcake. :)
